A CAMPAIGN group has evidence to prove special concrete barriers could have prevented the carnage that killed three people on the M40 at Loudwater last Thursday.
And the organisation is calling for these barriers to be put in place as soon as possible along the stretch to prevent future tragedies.
The Britpave group believes this may have prevented a northbound lorry from ploughing across the motorway's central reservation into the path of the traffic travelling southbound last week.
And it has released a video which shows how the concrete barriers are far more effective than steel ones in stopping traffic.
There are currently 200 “cross-over” accidents on motorways every year, but none have happened on stretches where these barriers exist. Since 2005, Britpave has been urging the Highways Agency to speed up its installation of this safety measure.
Two men and a woman died in last Thursday's accident, and a further 11 people were injured. Another man died in a five car pile-up on Monday on the motorway between Beaconsfield and Gerrards Cross.
